Ryan Whalen, PE, is a structural engineer with extensive experience leading the design, analysis, and delivery of complex building projects across commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, residential, and infrastructure sectors. Currently serving as a Forensic Engineer with Haag, a Salas O’Brien Company, he applies his structural engineering expertise to investigate building performance, evaluate structural failures and damage, and provide technically sound assessments. Prior to transitioning into forensic engineering, Mr. Whalen built a strong foundation in structural consulting, managing large-scale projects from concept through construction while ensuring compliance with applicable building codes, standards, and industry best practices.
Before joining Haag, Mr. Whalen served as a Structural Project Engineer where he led structural design and project management efforts for more than five million square feet of new construction and renovation projects. His experience includes the analysis and design of steel, concrete, precast, masonry, wood, cold-formed steel, tilt-up, and mass timber structures using industry-standard software and engineering methodologies. Earlier in his career, he worked as a Construction Engineer, supporting major transportation infrastructure projects.
Mr. Whalen is a licensed Professional Engineer and earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Iowa.
